This section is intended to showcase some of the work I have conducted in both user research and interaction design. Often user research served as basis for the design, informing the various design choices and inspiring breakthrough in my creative thinking.

markerClock
MarkerClock is a communicating clock designed to help older people better age in place. Its design is informed and inspired by both user and field studies I conducted with elderly people living independently. It provides users to stay in touch with close people both peripherally and directly using simple messages displayed on the clock.

mélange
Mélange is a presentation technique for information visualization helping users to explore large visual space while maintaining multiple areas of interest in view. Instead of spliting the viewport between these areas, as observed in many commercial software, Mélange folds the space between them, allowing users to retain an awareness of the intervening context.

Communication Appliances for Aging in Place
For this project, I explored alternative to existing monitoring and assistive technologies to support seniors desire to "age in place". Moving beyond existing paradigms for helping elders by helping caregivers, I studied how communications can improve seniors well-being.

zebra
Zebra is an observation tool designed to automatically capture things happening in a fixed environment. It allows participants to re-inforce their privacy by pausing recording. Zebra also provides means for participants to delete, review, comment and tag recorded data, supporting the collaborative analysis of data and helping build a shared understanding of things happening in the space.

SustEnable
Sustenable is both a field study of electricity consumption awareness in household, and a concept of spatial-based feedback of electricty consumption to help household members better inform the adoption of sustainable behaviors with electricity.
